Shina Salako

MD/CEO, SALCOMMS KWIK XTRA LIMITED · fifteen-plus years in telematics & logistics operations

Shina Salako is the founder and managing director of SALCOMMS KWIK XTRA LIMITED, a Nigerian telematics service provider whose operating model is built on embedded teams at client sites. Rather than selling tracking devices and stepping back, SALCOMMS analysts and operators sit inside the cargo-owner's premises, install devices on every third-party transporter's vehicle before commercial operations begin, and produce the daily business management reports that allow the client's leadership to manage transporter performance with independent visibility.

In 2014, Shina pioneered and managed Guinness Nigeria's first fleet management programme. Twelve years later, SALCOMMS is still embedded in that operation — across multiple breweries, several generations of telematics platform, and many cycles of transporter rotation. The dual-client reality of that engagement, where transporters serving Guinness are also direct SALCOMMS customers for their own private fleets, shapes much of what is now described in the book as the practitioner discipline.

He is affiliated with PowerFleet, a global telematics platform operating in over fifty countries, and is a certified Maxwell Leadership Team member. Much of what he writes is written from the seat he has worked in for the last fifteen years — that of the embedded service provider sitting alongside the operations team, daily, watching the discipline of fleet management form and re-form across cargo-owner organisations, transporter principals, and the long arc of an industry maturing under pressure.

The firm

SALCOMMS KWIK XTRA LIMITED.

A Nigerian telematics service provider built around one premise: visibility on its own does not move outcomes. Visibility produced inside the operation, by people who sit alongside it daily, in a format the operating team can act on within the same shift — that is what moves outcomes. The firm operates in three modes.

Mode 1

Embedded service for cargo-owners

SALCOMMS analysts and operators sit inside the cargo-owner's premises and produce the daily reports that allow leadership to manage third-party transporters with independent visibility. The firm installs devices, runs the platform, owns the data, and produces the operating evidence that lets the cargo-owner make fair, informed decisions about transporter performance.

Mode 2

Direct service for transporters

Many of the third-party transporters serving SALCOMMS-embedded cargo-owners are also direct SALCOMMS clients for their own private fleets. The firm serves both sides of the same operation — a dual-client reality that has shaped how the practitioner book describes vendor governance, change management, and the long arc of the service-provider relationship.

Mode 3

Advisory, training, and assessment

The firm runs the FOS maturity assessment, the practitioner training programmes for both cargo-owner and transporter audiences, and the consulting engagements that follow them. The advisory practice exists to scale the operating discipline beyond the limit of how many client sites the embedded teams can occupy directly.

The defining engagement

Twelve years embedded in Guinness Nigeria's fleet operation.

In 2014, SALCOMMS designed and launched the first formal fleet management programme inside Guinness Nigeria's distribution network. The brief was straightforward in description and significant in scope: instrument every vehicle running for Guinness across third-party transporters, produce daily evidence of performance against agreed standards, and give leadership the visibility to manage transporter relationships on operating fact rather than commercial relationship.

The engagement has now run twelve years across multiple breweries, several generations of telematics platform, dozens of transporters rotating in and out of the network, and the steady evolution of the fleet management discipline from a "device install" function into a structured operating system. The extended case study in Appendix C of the book covers the full arc — the starting condition, the first three months, the discipline that emerged, the moments where the operating model was tested and held, and the work product the engagement produced over twelve years.

The Guinness Nigeria operation is the most visible example of the SALCOMMS embedded model. It is not the only one — but it is the one that public record permits to be discussed by name, with the company's prior consent.
